"He Got His Ass Kicked"

You may already know about Thumbs. He is an abandoned cat that I took in 4 years ago. A week before getting back from the U.S. Road Trip, my little buddy got a big abscess in his leg, about the size of a quarter. An abscess is basically a little scratch that gets infected, heals over, but then stays infected and finally bursts. If you’re someone who easily gets grossed out, then stop reading this blog immediately and avoid any ones I post in the future. I’m not saying everything I write about will be disgusting, but I’m never going to avoid something that is actually happening to save your lunch.
So my roommate Nick, called me to let me know Thumbs had a chunk missing from his leg. We didn’t know what to do, so we decided on peroxide. I later got a message from Nick saying the job had been done, and that the sound coming out of Thumbs sounded like a human baby crying. After my friend Crystal took him to the vet, he was sent home with it cleaned, and some anti-biotics. The vet said no collar, because he needs to clean the wound, and no bandage or stitches, which would just seal in an infection.
The wound started to heal, and he was acting very healthy. So I started letting him out for air now and then. Well I regret ever letting him out until the wound was abso-fucking-lutely completely cleaned, because this is what I saw this morning.

I drove him to the Vet this morning and the first words out of the vet’s lips were, “Jesus Christ.” Upon further inspection, he also remarked with “He got his ass kicked!”
Which I guess is true. When I was driving back home I remembered I had trimmed his nails only a few days before and was stung with a bit of guilt for having left the poor guy to defend himself with a small wound and dull claws. So of course he got his ass kicked, the other cat was a shithead who didn’t play fair and went for the weak spot.
So it looks like Thumbs is going to be inside for the next little while, with a big open wound in his side, getting blood and puss all over the place like a little asshole. Way to go Pussy.
